Best dunning software for small business: the short list

For a small SaaS on Stripe, the best dunning software to start with is the retries and emails Stripe Billing already includes. The lowest flat fee in the table below is Stunning: $100 a month at $13K to $27K MRR and $120 at $28K to $50K, with every feature. Baremetrics suits a small business that wants MRR reports as much as failed payment recovery.

As read on October 23, 2026, Recover (Payment Recovery) is $129 a month on top of a plan. The plan under it is Launch, up to $360K ARR, at $49 a month with the yearly-billing switch on and $75 with it off. At the cancel button, the options are Churnkey Starter, Churn Buster Cancel Flows and Baremetrics Cancellation Insights, +$129 a month.

What each costs at $15K and $50K MRR

MRR is ARR divided by 12, so $15K MRR is $180K ARR and $50K MRR is $600K ARR (arithmetic). Launch covers the first and Growth the second. Each tool is priced on its own meter, named in the last column.

Launch plus Recover is $178 or $204 a month and Growth plus Recover is $318 or $384 (arithmetic from the figures above). Stunning has the lowest flat fee in the table at both points. Churnkey and Churn Buster print only entry prices, and Stunning sets no price below $5K MRR.

Start with what Stripe Billing already includes

Stripe Billing's pricing page lists Smart Retries, automatic reminders and up to three recovery and retention automations as Included. Stripe recommends Smart Retries at 8 tries within 2 weeks, emails the customer after each failed payment and sends an expiring-card email a month before expiry. Stripe says none of these features need code. Best failed payment recovery tools sorts all the options by job.

Chargebee and Recurly are billing systems with dunning built in. Chargebee's pricing page lists basic and smart dunning as included on its Flow and Enterprise plans. Recurly Starter is $249 a month plus 0.9% of billing volume, with the first $40K of billings each month at no charge, and includes one dunning campaign; multiple campaigns are listed under All-Access.

When a $129 add-on or Churnkey Starter makes sense

Baremetrics' Recover page says the first 14 days of Recover are free, so a small team can watch its own failed charges before paying.

The break-even arithmetic uses Baremetrics' own claim that around 9% of MRR is at risk. At $15K MRR, $129 is 0.86% of MRR, so Recover must win back about 9.6% of the at-risk revenue to cover its fee. That is an illustration, not a promise. Dunning software cost per month works the same sum at other sizes.
