Baremetrics vs Stripe: built-in recovery, analytics and paid add-ons

Last reviewed October 23, 2026

Quick answerStart with the Smart Retries, reminders and recovery automations in Stripe Billing. Add Recover at $129 a month once the failures Stripe leaves behind cover its fee, or Baremetrics for reports across billing systems.

Baremetrics vs Stripe: what Stripe Billing already includes

Stripe Billing already includes the basic recovery work: automatic reminders, Smart Retries, up to three recovery and retention automations and a customer portal, each marked "Included" on its pricing page. Smart Retries, Stripe's AI-timed retries, default to a recommended 8 tries within 2 weeks.

Baremetrics Launch is $49 a month with the pricing page's yearly-billing switch on and $75 a month with it off, for up to $360K ARR, as read on October 23, 2026. Recover (Payment Recovery) is +$129 a month. Stripe's Billing pricing page offers no trial, only Start now and Contact sales, while Baremetrics' sign-up page offers 14 days free.

Where Baremetrics adds to Stripe

Stripe emails the customer after each failed payment and links to a page where the card can be updated; Baremetrics describes this as one branded template email. Baremetrics Recover sends seven emails by default, plus SMS and in-app banners, and Stripe's retries keep running underneath it. Does Stripe retry failed payments covers that setting.

For cancellations, Stripe's portal collects a reason from a list of eight and can offer a retention coupon; reasons are on by default and coupons are off. Cancellation Insights, +$129 a month, lets you write and order the reasons, adds an in-app widget and an email an hour after cancellation, and offers a discount as its only offer type. Baremetrics says Stripe's survey only records the cancellation, yet Stripe's own pages describe retention coupons.

Revenue metrics: Stripe Billing analytics against Baremetrics

Stripe's Billing analytics documents MRR, MRR growth split into new, reactivation, expansion, contraction and churn, ARPU, subscriber lifetime value, trial conversion, cohort retention and benchmarks.

Baremetrics tracks over 28 metrics, including MRR, ARR and churn rate, across Stripe and other billing systems. Its Stripe comparison page says Stripe offers no MRR movements, LTV or ARPU, while Stripe's analytics page describes all three, so the two sources disagree and neither settles the choice. Baremetrics itself advises a team that needs only payment volume and basic subscription counts to start with Stripe; the Stripe MRR dashboard guide shows what Stripe reports.

  • Stripe Billing for retries, reminder emails and up to three recovery automations included in its 0.7% Billing fee.
  • Baremetrics for reporting across Stripe, Braintree, Recurly or Chargebee, with Recover or Cancellation Insights added for customer-side work.
